BIO
Tom Martin began playing drums at the age of 8, after experimenting with various other instruments, including guitar, piano and violin, through growing up in a musical household. From there, he steadily progressed and began gigging at age 12, working with a variety of groups, from small trios to large big bands, playing everything from rock, metal, pop and gospel to reggae, latin, funk and jazz fusion. From the age of 15, he regularly did sight-reading gigs with various ensembles. Subsequently, he has developed into becoming a transcriber as well as a drummer, expanding his skill base. At 16, he commuted to ICMP for a term before continuing his studies locally at Hertfordshire College of Music (Hitchin/Letchworth). In addition to his diploma courses, he engaged in much independent study of drum teaching, including shadow teaching classes at the HCM College in Ware with ages ranging from 5 to 50. He also constructed a website (see below) of detailed learner resources to give any new student the knowledge and skills required to gain competence on the instrument. Throughout his developmental period from age 11 onwards, he received drum tuition, which included lessons with renowned Hungarian drummer Gábor Dörnyei and long term study with Neil Martin, one of the most highly rated drummers and teachers in the UK.
